SEOUl, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have begun high-stakes discussions in South Korea, seeking to reach a deal that could potentially end the long-standing U.S.–China trade war.
According to international media reports, the meeting aims to rebuild economic cooperation after years of escalating tariffs and trade restrictions between the two largest economies.
A temporary truce reached in May had eased some retaliatory tariffs, but disputes reignited over semiconductor access, rare earth exports, and the future of Chinese-owned TikTok’s operations in the United States.
Meanwhile, President Trump stirred global attention by directing the U.S. Department of Defense to resume nuclear weapons testing, a move that has drawn criticism from several world leaders.
Both sides are expected to continue talks over the next few days in an effort to draft a framework for renewed trade stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
